Baobab leaf extract is rich in saponins, mucilage content, and polyphenols that inhibit enzymes amylase, glucosidase, and aldose reductase, producing a hypoglycemic effect.
Hypolipidemic
Research into the effect of alcohol extract of Baobab leaf on blood lipids showed a significant decrease in total cholesterol while enhancing the HDL level. It was also reported that the administration of Adansonia digitata extract reduces Triglycerides and LDL in diabetic rats.
Antioxidant Activity
Elevated oxidative stress in diabetic patients involves extensive lipid peroxidation. It is reported that Baobab leaf extract is rich in flavonoids and phenolic compounds that reduce free radical activity observed in patients with diabetes.
Anti-inflammatory
An alcohol extract of Adansonia digitata leaf inhibits lipopolysaccharide-induced iNOS expression and inhibits NF-kB important targets to reduce inflammation associated with many chronic, life-threatening diseases.
